Using Case Study (Cambridge Analytica) to Teach Cybersecurity Hygiene

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

Feedback form is now closed.
Since a case study is a problem-based approach to support contextual learning, this workshop uses it to explore the Cambridge Analytica scandal regarding harvesting of Facebook data.  The workshop allows participants to discover how to gather and analyze social media data (e.g., Twitter) as well as identify why someone would want to do that. Participants use a data mining web-based tool to conduct social media data analytics (search, analyze, and visualize social media data). This involves searching to identify social network of people with similar interests, extracting keywords to find topic trends (e.g., word map, name map), and conducting pattern analysis to identify sentiment (e.g., joy, anger, frustration).  During the workshop, participants experience how social media data can be exploited and identify what they can do to enhance their own data privacy!
