1st Annual Virginia Cybersecurity Education Conference has ended
Welcome! The Virginia Cyber Range is hosting the 1st Annual Virginia Cybersecurity Education Conference at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA on August 14-15, 2018. Attendees and Sponsors: Registration is CLOSED. NOTE: Regrets...We are at MAX CAPACITY; NO on-site registrations will be accepted. 
Registration fees (includes CEU certificate, lunch (Day 1), and breakfast & lunch (Day 2)):
     - VA Educator/State/Federal Government Employee: $50
     - Student: $25
     - Industry/Others: $150
     - Sponsors: Three levels available during registration; see below under Sponsorship Opportunities to review.

Conference Objectives
At the end of the conference, attendees will:
  • Understand the challenges facing educators (K12 through university level) in cybersecurity education
  • Learn innovative and effective ways to teach cybersecurity to students using hands-on learning
  • Learn about various state and national cybersecurity educational resources available to educators
  • Understand the history and services provided by the Virginia Cyber Range
  • Understand the hiring needs and skills required to prepare students to successfully enter the cybersecurity workforce
  • Discover ways to get underrepresented student populations excited about and involved in cybersecurity
  • Examine the dangers associated with social media and technology use and how to effectively teach students to safely operate in cyber

Earning Continuing Education Units (CEU)
All attendees are eligible to earn CEUs for attending the conference, but they must sign in each day at the designated CEU table located near registration.

The National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education (NICE) - a partnership between government, academia, and the private sector - is working to energize and promote a robust network and an ecosystem of cybersecurity education, training, and workforce development. This presentation will report highlights of a variety of NICE coordinated activities, and will discuss in greater detail NICE efforts and various opportunities for the Virginia Cybersecurity Education Conference participants to be more involved and engaged with the NICE program. Be prepared to

  • Explore how Virginia cybersecurity education opportunities compare to other states,
  • Explore free tools like CyberSeek, the Challenge Project, and the NICE Workforce Framework and learn how they can be used to design cybersecurity career pathways,
  • Learn about the National Cybersecurity Career Awareness Week (NCCAW), a national celebration that focuses on increasing awareness about the plethora of careers in cybersecurity, what's in store for this year, and walk away with examples and suggestions of how you can participate and make a difference, and
  • Start preparing for this year's National K12 Cybersecurity Education Conference to be held in San Antonio in December.
