1st Annual Virginia Cybersecurity Education Conference has ended
Welcome! The Virginia Cyber Range is hosting the 1st Annual Virginia Cybersecurity Education Conference at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA on August 14-15, 2018. Attendees and Sponsors: Registration is CLOSED. NOTE: Regrets...We are at MAX CAPACITY; NO on-site registrations will be accepted. 
Registration fees (includes CEU certificate, lunch (Day 1), and breakfast & lunch (Day 2)):
     - VA Educator/State/Federal Government Employee: $50
     - Student: $25
     - Industry/Others: $150
     - Sponsors: Three levels available during registration; see below under Sponsorship Opportunities to review.

Conference Objectives
At the end of the conference, attendees will:
  • Understand the challenges facing educators (K12 through university level) in cybersecurity education
  • Learn innovative and effective ways to teach cybersecurity to students using hands-on learning
  • Learn about various state and national cybersecurity educational resources available to educators
  • Understand the history and services provided by the Virginia Cyber Range
  • Understand the hiring needs and skills required to prepare students to successfully enter the cybersecurity workforce
  • Discover ways to get underrepresented student populations excited about and involved in cybersecurity
  • Examine the dangers associated with social media and technology use and how to effectively teach students to safely operate in cyber

Earning Continuing Education Units (CEU)
All attendees are eligible to earn CEUs for attending the conference, but they must sign in each day at the designated CEU table located near registration.

Training and Education Resources for Building Cyber Security Talent in the Commonwealth

On June 26th, 2018, the Community, Military and Federal Facility Partnership of NOVA and the GMU-Virginia Serious Game Institute hosted a Cyber conference with the following objectives:

  • Understand types of career opportunities in the region
  • Understand cyber workforce and curriculum standardization efforts underway
  • Understand efforts underway in high school systems, colleges and universities, and in veteran’s organizations to address cyber talent needs
  • Identify needs to support high school teachers and transitioning veterans
  • Present training pathways and programs for veterans to get qualified, and high school teachers to get trained
  • Identify information link(s) to cyber jobs and training curriculum(s) for veterans and high school teachers
  • Develop updated plan for enhancing training and education pathways for cyber jobs from inputs at the conference

The conference generated a formal white paper sponsored by the partners focused on summarizing the conferences outcomes and next steps for the Northern VA region.  We will release the findings of this white paper at the Virginia Cybersecurity Education Conference.

The partners of the consortium include the following: Northern VA Regional Council, Northern VA Community College, Booz Allen and Hamilton, George Mason University.
