Conference Objectives At the end of the conference, attendees will:
Understand the challenges facing educators (K12 through university level) in cybersecurity education
Learn innovative and effective ways to teach cybersecurity to students using hands-on learning
Learn about various state and national cybersecurity educational resources available to educators
Understand the history and services provided by the Virginia Cyber Range
Understand the hiring needs and skills required to prepare students to successfully enter the cybersecurity workforce
Discover ways to get underrepresented student populations excited about and involved in cybersecurity
Examine the dangers associated with social media and technology use and how to effectively teach students to safely operate in cyber
Earning Continuing Education Units (CEU) All attendees are eligible to earn CEUs for attending the conference, but they must sign in each day at the designated CEU table located near registration.

During the "State of the Range" plenary session, Dr. David Raymond, the Director of the Virginia Cyber Range, will provide a brief history of the evolution of the Range from its conception to its founding on 1 July 2016, and through its first two years to its current state today. More importantly, he will unveil and demonstrate new range functionality in time for the fall 2018 academic term and discuss what's in store for the future. Four Virginia faculty members who are teaching cybersecurity classes at the high school and college level will answer questions about their experience teaching cybersecurity and using the Virginia Cyber Range. These faculty members are from around the Commonwealth and represent two high schools, one community college, and one university. We are very fortunate to have Ms. Karen Jackson, former Virginia Secretary of Technology, as the moderator for this panel; she was instrumental in establishing the Virginia Cyber Range during her tenure in that position.
